Who we help

We’re a digital marketing consultancy for charities and visitor attractions. The reason that we’ve chosen to work with these sectors is simple that’s where our experience lies.

Having worked in-house for (many) years, we understand your challenges. We’ve lived through the many of the same challenges. And we’ve identified solutions. Now we want to pass our knowledge on to you, so that you can get to where you want to be, faster.

As founder of The Marketing Den, my most recent role was Head of Digital Marketing for The National Trust, the UK’s largest charity, with over 400 visitor attractions in its care.

During my seven years leading the Trust’s digital marketing teams, we came up against many issues from how to grow revenue through digital channels, to how to deepen relationships with our customers.

Since setting up the Marketing Den on 1 March 2021, we’ve been fortunate to work with a range of lovely clients, all of whom have (so far) had equally lovely things to say about us.

What our clients say?

"After meeting Ellie online she quickly got to the heart of how our Comms Team works and understood our audiences and business needs.

We valued Ellie’s collaborative approach and, through regular catch-ups and progress updates, we knew that she and the team at The Marketing Den were working towards something that would be immediately usable across the IIED Team. Ellie expertly drew out insights from The Marketing Den's detailed analysis and turned them into realistic recommendations for us to take forward. I am pleased to say that we have already seen results from her suggested improvements to our digital engagement strategy across SEO, email strategy and social media.

If you want to improve your digital communications using a data-driven approach, I'd highly recommend working with The Marketing Den"
Clair Grant-Salmon, Head of Audience Development at IIED
International Institute For Environment and Development (IIED)
"The Marketing Den worked with us to improve our social performance starting with an audit of our channels and presentation detailing the research and analysis undertaken, as well as opportunities for improvements.

Ellie was super professional, quick to respond, managed our expectations on agreed timeframes and delivered a piece of work that was not only to our project brief but gave us the tools and direction to make changes.

Following on from the audit we engaged with Ellie further to carry out social media training across our local social channel owners and will be continuing to work with her to use her expertise to drive this area for us. I would recommend The Marketing Den to any business looking to seek advice, direction, and support on social media strategy, planning and execution."

Giving Back

We’re motivated by making a difference. So we get excited when we’re approached by organisations who genuinely have the potential to create change.

We want to help you to achieve your goals.

But we recognise, that these are challenging times, particularly for the non-profit industry. Not every charity can afford the support it needs to refine their strategy and upskill their team. That’s why we’re committed to giving back.

We do this by choosing one charity each year to support on a pro-bono basis. In our first year of business, our chosen charity was The Lullaby Trust. And here’s what they had to say about the service they received.

"Ellie was so generous gifting her time pro bono to support The Lullaby Trust in reviewing our approach to digital fundraising. Ellie took the time to review how we were working and to make clear and practical recommendations to move us forward. Ellie made this feel achievable through quick wins alongside bigger strategic questions for our future direction.

As a small charity this was really motivating to know we could improve how we’re working straight away. Ellie then worked with the fundraising and communications teams to train them in how to create a test and learn approach to our social media advertising. The session really helped to boost confidence across both teams and motivate everyone to try new things.

We’re already putting lots of the suggestions into action.

Thanks so much Ellie!"

Making Marketing Wishes Come True

We recognise that we can’t help all charities in need on our own. So in addition to our own pro-bono work, we’ve set up an initiative called The Marketing Grotto. Open to applications from November to Christmas Eve each year, The Marketing Grotto matches charities in need of support, with marketing experts willing to donate some of their time and skills towards helping charities.
